Abstract
The Canterbury Initiative (CI) process facilitates the development of effective and efficient "pathways" of care for patients in Canterbury. These “HealthPathways” are produced with input from primary and secondary clinicians. A number of new services and funding streams have been added over recent years to enable service provision in primary care.
Any change in service delivery which might impact on the quality of patient care should be evaluated. Canterbury Initiative evaluations are done focusing on subsets of referrals, clinical result groupings, investigations or claim groupings. The results are utilised to improve pathways and develop on-going audit programmes.
